Teaching

Tim is an Associate Professor of Music at the University of Wisconsin Marathon County in Wausau, Wisconsin, where he directs two vocal jazz ensembles and the Concert Choir and teaches classes in music theory, aural skills, and vocal techniques.  He completed his Doctorate in Jazz Vocal Performance from the Studio Music and Jazz department at the University of Miami Frost School of Music.  Tim is currently the WCDA Repertoire and Standards Chair for Vocal Jazz in the state of Wisconsin.


Tim is the director of the UW-Marathon County Vocal Jazz Festival and also the UW-Marathon County Vocal Jazz Camp. He is also a previous director of vocal jazz and show choirs at The International Music Camp, and has taught at the Steve Zegree Vocal Jazz Camp, and at the WMU Seminar Summer Music Camp.


Tim has directed a number of All-State and District Honors Vocal Jazz Choirs, and has served as an adjudicator for numerous vocal jazz festivals.  He is available as a vocal jazz clinician as well as for private lessons.  Contact Tim for his availability.


From 2007-2012 Tim taught at the University of Miami Frost School of Music as both a Doctoral Teaching Assistant and upon graduation as a Lecturer where he taught jazz voice lessons, directed the jazz vocal ensembles JV1 and Extensions, and taught classes in jazz vocal styles, jazz vocal improvisation, vocal jazz arranging, and group jazz piano.  From 2009-2012 he was an adjunct faculty member at Miami Dade College where he directed both of the vocal jazz choirs and taught jazz voice lessons, jazz improvisation classes, and music theory classes. 


From 2005-2007 Tim directed the vocal jazz ensemble “Jazz and Tonic,” at California State University at Long Beach, and during the 2006-2007 school year, before moving to Miami, Tim was the director of Vocal Jazz Choirs at Santa Monica High School.
